Dream Train
Read a poem capturing the quiet, dreamy world of an MRT commute — from dozing senses to vivid glimpses of strangers on board.
Dream Train
By Adeline Teo
Theta waves
over-bearing
Drowsy
Sleepy
And unbecoming
Ease of senses
Breeze delights
Brushing against
my legs
So light
Bell chimes
Boy crouched
Mummy smiles
of protection
He hides
Door a-closing
Chants bemusing
Closing-opening
MRT goes
Watch your TOES!
When I doze
I feel me inside;
Craving for
my bed
and sides
Fast releasing!
TRAPPED up feelings
Pent up
PENT UP!
So revealing
Alpha lures
me to its shores
Wish I could hail
on-board
this dream-ship and snore
Delta keeps
His face away
Never been
with him
Time forbade
“Holland Village!”
Echoes the voice
in the train
Roaring-shutting
Forceful doors!
Pain releasing
like the syringe
Feel the potion
Stealthily crawling
Up stream
Motioning me
To tip myself
to one side,
Sleep
advancing
What I saw…
I saw
Ear plugs on
Box in hand
Woman bends
I saw
Woman keeps
Balance
Doors avoid
I saw
Toying with
The gates
It seems
I know
I saw
her not more
Not from Adam
But
I saw
Eve
She toots light-footedly
The cool breeze
Air-con hisses
Oil of fragrance
Sight so deep
What I saw
Not a while
Do scenes unfold
Right before me
It is evening
Soon to be
I saw
Train so full already…
I saw people be
Loneliness lurks
As darkness Swoops
Down surreptitiously
